Who am I?

My name is Leann (pictured here with my beautiful mama), and while originally from Illinois, I’ve made my home in the Tallahassee area for the past 25+ years.

In November 2025 I was laid off from my corporate job along with 54 others, and so I began trying to figure out what I was going to do next. At 56 years old it was a daunting task, to say the least.

I had started a little laundry side business earlier this year, but it wasn’t anything truly sustainable as a full time job. It was something, however, to supplement my severance package while I looked for something else.

Then Miss Jan entered the chat.

Miss Jan is a lovely lady whose laundry I have been doing since earlier this year, and literally the same week that I got laid off she suffered a pretty severe injury that ultimately resulted in her having to leave her little apartment and move into her son’s home. She asked me to assist her with cleaning out her apartment, helping her sort through her things and disposing of the unwanted items. I also assisted her in getting her belongings settled in her new living space.

All of this resulted in Miss Jan and I spending a considerable amount of time together, and I learned that there was likely a considerable need for a service like what I was providing for her.

And so the idea for Helping Hands Big Bend was born.
